Hotkeys & Shortcuts
Neuron Flame is hotkey-first. Pick combinations that fit your hands; configure them all from Settings → Hotkeys.
Push-to-Talk (the main one)
Hold the key while you speak; release when you're done. The transcript pastes at your cursor.
- Right Option — most popular. Doesn't conflict with anything.
- F5 — replaces macOS's old dictation key.
- fn — convenient on MacBooks.
- ⌃⌥ + Space — distinctive chord, no conflicts.
Tip. Modifier-only hotkeys (like Right Option alone) require Input Monitoring permission. Chords (modifier + letter) usually don't.
Hands-Free Toggle
Tap once to start recording; tap again to stop. Useful for longer thoughts where you don't want to hold a key.
Common choice: F6 or ⌃⌥⌘ + D.
Cancel Recording
Pressed during a recording, throws away the audio without transcribing. Useful when you've started speaking and changed your mind.
Default: Escape while the recorder pill is visible.
Open Mini Recorder
Show the recorder pill without recording. Useful for checking which Power Mode profile is active.
Toggle AI Enhancement
Quickly turn enhancement on/off without opening Settings. Useful when you want raw text for one transcription only.
Toggle Power Mode
Master switch — turn the whole per-app profile system on or off.
Paste Last Transcription
Paste the most recent transcript again, without re-recording. Useful if you accidentally clicked away before it pasted.
Open History
Jump straight to the History tab. Default: ⌃⌥⌘ + H.
Conflicts
If your hotkey doesn't fire, another app may have claimed it first. Check System Settings → Keyboard → Keyboard Shortcuts for conflicts. Common offenders:
- Spotlight (⌘ + Space)
- Raycast / Alfred
- The macOS dictation toggle (still uses fn if you haven't disabled it in Settings → Keyboard → Dictation)
Macros
Power-user trick: combine Neuron Flame with a tool like Karabiner-Elements or BetterTouchTool to bind push-to-talk to physical buttons (e.g. a foot pedal, a Stream Deck, or your trackpad's force-click). Bind the external trigger to send your Neuron Flame hotkey, and you're set.
